Eucerin Epigenetic serum features an innovative active – Epicelline.
Actives:
- Dihydromyricetin (Epicelline)
- glycine saponin, enoxolone (skin regeneration, improvement of intrinsic hydration)
- glycyrrhetinic acid (soothing)
On application:
The serum is a lightweight lotion that feels somewhat moisturising too – it can get a bit sticky, so cover it with a thin layer of moisturizer to neutralise that sensation. It’s quite intensely scented (as are most Eucerin products). The brand advises to use it twice daily, and it lasts for 1,5 months of doing so. It can be combined with every other ingredient.
My thoughts:
Let us start with describing what Epicelline actually is. This patented active is Dihydromyricetin, an alkaloid found in vine tea leaves, a plant known for its health benefits and widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dihydromyricetin is an antioxidant that can reduce DNA hypermethylation. To simplify a bit – that means it can reverse changes that happen in our DNA due to aging or environmental factors and result in cellular aging. It has been proven that Dihydromyricetin can re-activate genes linked to young-appearing skin. To my knowledge it’s the most proven active that works on the epigenetic makeup of the skin.
What does that mean for us? The serum works to rejuvenate the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, sogginess, and can improve skin smoothness.
I haven’t seen a lot of improvement in my skin, but my followers and patients have. I know it can be a bit irritating/drying to some – so dial up the hydration or limit use to 1x per day.
For you, if: you’re looking for a non-retinoid rejuvenating product, or you’re looking for something as a companion to your retinoid regimen.
Not for you, if: you’re not even 30 years old.
