Defenage Bioserum is a well-crafted serum that’ll future proof your skin.
Actives:
- bio-synthesised defensins, identical with human ones. In short, defensins are present in our skin naturally – they induce skin’s regenerative processes, take part in immunological responses and wound healing. Their concentration decreases in atopic skin diseases. They are not in the same family as growth factors. They also have promising double blind studies demonstrating their efficacy (see HERE). You can use them with any other actives, they haven’t been observed to be skin irritants.
- niacinamide
- hyaluronic acid, phospholipids, peptides
- ergothioneine, coenzyme Q10 (antioxidants)
- Botanical extracts, ferments
On application:
1 pump is enough for the face, it’s very lightweight and feels like nothing on the skin, but you have to be quick. Much like with retinoids less is more here. Theoretically it should be applied over the Defence cream, but as soon as I ran out of that I started layering it between the serum and cream and it does the job. Fragrance free.
My thoughts:
Well, when I was purchasing the serum I got a bit scared at the price point, but seeing its amazing longevity (over 4 months of daily use, 2 of those twice daily) it isn’t THAT bad. You can apply it every day, even twice daily, there are no contraindications to combine it with retinoids, acids, peptides… so it’s very easy to introduce even if your skincare is… robust. And it isn’t irritating. Effects include a visible difference in skin regeneration (you can even use it post-treatment, especially after microneedling as recommended by the brand), an overall skin and texture refresh. They can be seen after about 2 months, like with retinoids. And since defensins are usually found on our skin, I haven’t heard of any contraindications regarding pregnancy use.
For you, if: you’re looking for an effective serum that doesn’t require much fuss to use, or cannot use retinoids.
