Biologique Recherche P50W is a transformative exfoliant.
Actives:
- exfoliating acids (PHA, AHA, BHA) – gluconolactone, lactic, mandolin, citric acids, sodium salicylate
- vinegar
- niacinamide
- allantoin, urea, serine, botanical extracts (soothing)
- sulphur
On application:
You apply it with a cosmetic pad, not by rubbing it into the skin, but patting into cleansed, dry skin. When you first start using it, it’s advised to apply on a dampened pad, and then a pad with the toner only after a few days. The skin looks smoother and brighter after application, and even though it’s the version for more sensitive skins, it can sting and make your skin red with the first few times you use it. So take care of your barrier! It’s not a skin barrier killer on its own, thankfully!
My thoughts:
The P50 family is considered to be one of the most iconic exfoliant lineups, so I had to try them. They have formulas that aren’t exactly cookie cutter – multi-acid approach, interesting additives (vinegar, sulphur, even phenol in the US-only 1970 version), and carefully set pH. I followed the advice of an aesthetician who works with BR to start with the W version for sensitive skins. Despite that, I got some flushing and stinging (without barrier disruption, irritation or dehydration though) with the first few applications. After that went down I saw my skin visibly refreshed and glowy. The next couple uses didn’t give me a flush or stinging, but every time my skin was glassy and felt amazing. This gave me a WOW effect. I’ve used it every two days in the morning. The little 50 ml bottle last me about… 6 weeks. Now I’m waiting for the original P50!
